Chris Pellettieri led Benet with 22 points, including six three-pointers, while the Redwings held Hinsdale Central star Matt Rafferty to eight points in Tuesday's Class 4A East Aurora Sectional semifinal.
Morton's Greg Carter scored 21 of his 35 points in three scintillating overtimes, twice forcing extra sessions in the final seconds as No. 4 seed Morton beat No. 1 York 77-74 in a Class 4A Bartlett Sectional semifinal after blowing a 16-point fourth-quarter lead.
St. Rita was an easy 64-44 winner over King in a Class 4A Marist Sectional semifinal. The Mustangs will play the winner of Wednesday's semifinal pairing Young and Simeon on Friday for the sectional title.

Only two team teams alive in this Class 4A state tournament clawed their way up through three regional contests to make sectional. Those two underdogs with first-year coaches — South Elgin (17-14) and Jacobs (18-13) — face each other Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Class 4A Elgin Sectional.

Geneva extinguished the sting of last year’s regional final loss last week, defeating Bolingbrook 66-63 at Plainfield East to win the program’s first regional title in 28 years. Next up is West Aurora, the school that bounced the Vikings last season.

The Southland features two tough Class 4A sectionals at Thornton and Marist that feature Marian Catholic, Thornwood, St. Rita, Young and Simeon. Whichever teams emerge from these sectionals will be ready for the fierce competition it will have downstate.

Rich East comes into the sectional semifinal against Morgan Park having won 17 of its last 18 games and will be looking to make it to the sectional final for the second year in a row. Two surprise teams, Joliet Catholic and Pontiac, play in the other semifinal.

After getting a buzzer-beating shot from Drew David to win a Class 3A regional title over Marmion on Friday, Kaneland hopes that momentum will carry over into its sectional semifinal matchup with Rockford Lutheran at at Hampshire on Tuesday.
Erasing the bitter memory of last year's playoff collapse on its home floor against the same Chicagoland Jewish team, Mooseheart rolled to the school's first sectional title, 50-35 at the Class 1A Serena Sectional final.
