North Shore Country Day alumnus Jake Gordon earned All-Midwest Conference North Division and D3baseball.com All-Central Region honors at Lawrence this season. | Lawrence University Athletics

Lawrence baseball player Jake Gordon, a North Shore Country Day alumnus, was recently named to the All-Midwest Conference North Division team and the D3baseball.com All-Central Region team. This was Gordon’s first time earning either honor.

Gordon, a center fielder from Wilmette, led the Vikings in batting average (.400), on-base percentage (.439), runs scored (30), total bases (68) and stolen bases (10). He started in all 33 of the team’s games and set a school record with 54 hits. He also tied the school record for hits in a game with five against Carroll on April 16.

Lawrence’s roster also includes junior infielder and pitcher Davis Ogilvie from Libertyville, sophomore first baseman/outfielder Max Markoff from Niles West, senior pitcher John Doran from New Trier and freshman catcher/infielder Brandon Vamarasi from Evanston.

 

Mike Martin, who played high school baseball for Stevenson, earned all-Ivy League honors at Harvard.

A junior outfielder from Buffalo Grove, Martin was the team leader with a .392 slugging percentage, 45 hits and 17 stolen bases, and tied for the team lead with 22 runs. He was second on the team with a .304 batting average and .384 on-base percentage. Martin was one of three Crimson players to play in each of the team’s 39 games.

 

Loras softball player Katie Serpico, from Ridgewood, was named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region team.

The junior designated player led the Duhawks in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.670), home runs (8), RBI (37), hits (38) and total bases (67). She finished second on the team in on-base percentage (.483) and walks (20).

 

Two former Hinsdale Central athletes earned spring academic all-Big Ten honors on the Illinois women’s golf team. Erin Ahern is a junior aeronautical engineering major. Samantha Postillion, who attended Hinsdale Central for three years, is a senior accountancy major.

Fellow Illini golfer Stephanie Miller, who won two state championships at  Stevenson, made it to the NCAA Central Regional as a freshman. She placed 51st in her postseason debut. Miller led all Illini during the 2013-2014 season with a 75-stroke average.

 

Carleton College junior pitcher Sam Cattau appeared in seven games for the Knights this spring and finished with a 6.57 ERA in 12 1/3 innings. Cattau, a Park Ridge native who attended Walther Lutheran, held opposing batters to a .229 average. 

Carleton College is a Division III program located in Northfield, Minnesota.
