Naperville Sun's baseball notes

Chris Walker breaks down three things you should know about area baseball.

Benet is in a race. The Redwings remain right in the middle of the East Suburban Catholic Conference with a big series against Marian Catholic this week. The Redwings’ batting average has hovered near .350, but whether or not they can score enough runs in the final couple weeks is a big question. Recently, they dropped a 1-0 game to Notre Dame, but also beat Marist, 2-0.

Neuqua Valley is in unfamiliar territory. The Wildcats (12-14-1) have lost five straight, while being outscored 43-11. The Wildcats looked to salvage the final game of a three-game set against a very hot Waubonsie Valley team on Tuesday. The Wildcats are not used to being under .500, and last finished with a losing record in 1999 when they went 13-19.

Naperville Central hasn’t lost a series. Its recipe for success in the DuPage Valley Conference has simply come down to winning the series. They Redhawks are a perfect 5-0 through five of them, including sweeps of Glenbard East and West Aurora. They took care of Glenbard North, Lake Park and Wheaton Warrenville South, 2-1, with their final two remaining against Wheaton North this week and then crosstown rival Naperville North next week.
