Hinsdale Central junior center fielder and leadoff hitter Chris Botsoe will miss the rest of the regular season after getting hit in the face by a pitch on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader with Glenbard West in Hinsdale.
The Louisville-bound Botsoe, who is in his second season with the Devils after transferring from St. Laurence, delivered the news via Twitter.
The Clarendon Hills resident was batting .290 with six RBI, six stolen bases and seven runs scored. In his final game of the year, Botsoe went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.
First-year coach Jason Ziemer said Botsoe has multiple fractures and may need surgery.
“His positive attitude that he brought to the team will be surely missed. He was our leadoff hitter and was just starting to come out of his early season slump,” Ziemer said via email. “His defense will be impossible to replace and the pop at the front of lineup will be missed as well.
“But, it gives a couple of other players a chance to step up and show what kind of skills they have.”
