Curie's Cliff Alexander could square off against Young's Jahlil Okafor in the Public League final, which will be televised on the U Too. | Patrick Gleason/For Sun-Times Media
It’s not just the city and state buzzing over the possibility of Curie’s Cliff Alexander and Young’s Jahlil Okafor matching up in the Public League final, it’s the entire country.
Alexander’s performance in Curie’s win over Montverde, Fla. on ESPN has national recruiting analysts considering elevating him above Okafor, who has long held the top ranking. The big men are clearly the best prospects in the country in the Class of 2014.
Okafor and Alexander are competing against each other for just about everything: Sun-Times Player of the Year, National Player of the Year, the city championship and the state championship.
Young and Curie could meet in the Public League Final, which will be televised on The U Too. Weigel Broadcasting has a full slate of games for the rest of the month, including a new event: the Chicago Catholic League Championship,
“Now is the time of year when the basketball season gets interesting,” Weigel Broadcasting Executive Producer Fred Weintraub said. “Every game means something as teams look towards the playoffs and championship play. We are thrilled to once again be broadcasting among the best in high school on The U Too.”
