Orr was still riding high after defeating No. 7 St. Joseph on Monday in the Martin Luther King Dream Classic at Young.

But the No. 10 Spartans had to scrap and claw their way to a 70-69 victory against visiting Farragut on Tuesday in a Red-West showdown.

Orr’s Marlon Jones, a 6-9 senior center who had been quiet for most of the game, saved the day as he grabbed an offensive rebound and sank a jump hook in the lane with two seconds remaining to secure the victory.

Jones (11 points) also made the game-saving play on defense when he came off his man and blocked a shot with nine seconds remaining that led to a layup attempt by Tyquone Greer, who was fouled. Greer missed both free throws, setting up Jones’ heroics.

“We took them for granted,” Orr coach Louis Adams said. “I don’t know why. This is the Red-West and they came ready to play.’’

Jones scored all of his points as part of Orr’s final 13.

Lou Adams, Jr. had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Greer and Issaiah Hayes scored 13 apiece for the Spartans (12-2, 4-1).

Jones, who got in early foul trouble, said that while he was on the bench he tried to clear his head.

“I knew I was not playing well and I was not much of a factor for most of the game,’’ Jones said. ‘‘But when I went back into the game coach had confidence [in me] and told my teammates to get the ball to me and they got me the ball.

‘‘I was glad I was able to come through.”

Ashawn Jones and Josh Adams combined for 46 of Farragut’s 69 points. Jones had 24 and Adams scored 20 of his 22 in the first half for the Admirals (4-8, 1-6).

“I am leaving here shaking my head on this one,” Farragut coach William Nelson said. “[Orr] missed two free throws and gets three calls, all in a one-minute span that changed the whole complex of the game.

‘‘I don’t know what to say. I am proud of the way we came in here. [We] stood up to the challenge. They know that they are very fortunate to get this win.”
