Young senior Jahlil Okafor said it best, right after the game, on national television.
“I don’t know why you guys are talking to me,” said Okafor. “I feel like you should be talking to (Paul White).
It was a rough game for Okafor Monday at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. but a statement game for White and the rest of the Dolphins.
Young beat Oak Hill, USA Today’s No. 5 team in the country, 53-50.
Okafor picked up his fourth foul with 5:40 to play in the third quarter. He left the game and did not return until the final three minutes.
“Paul White played phenomenal,” said Okafor. “I was just in awe about how he played. I’m very disappointed with myself and how I played.”
Young gutted out the rest of the third quarter and trailed 40-32 heading into the fourth. White scored eight points in the fourth to lead the Dolphins (12-4) to the win. He finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. White shot 7-for-11 from the field.
Okafor added 14 points and eight rebounds and Miles Reynolds scored 13 for Young, including a crucial six points in the fourth quarter.
