Taylor White had a putback to bring Addison Trail within 48-44 with three minutes and 44 seconds to play in the championship game of the Addison Trail Pre-Holiday Tournament Saturday evening in Addison. But Michael Karas’ three-pointer and two free throws helped Lake Park restore its sizable advantage late.
The Lancers’ Tim Weiss and eighth-man Cameron Van Aswegen combined for five consecutive second-quarter three-pointers to give Lake Park (9-3) a 14-point lead late in the frame.
Karas’ three-pointer — on his lone attempt of the game — derailed the Blazers’ momentum, which was fueled by James Pupillo. The senior guard slashed his way to a game-high 22-points, but the Lancers never let go of their first-quarter lead.
BY THE NUMBERS
Lake Park had a balanced attack with three players in double figures. Karas and Van Aswegen finished with 13 points apiece. Weiss, despite serious foul trouble for much of the second half, had 12 points on four three-pointers.
“[Addison Trail] was coming back slowly on defense. [The three-pointer] was a shot you had to take. If you make it, you go up big.” — Karas
