THE SKINNY

Hinsdale South (5-3, 2-0 WSC Gold) and Downers South (2-4, 1-1) went back and forth all night with neither side gaining much traction. The Hornets took the lead late in the fourth and managed to hold on in spite of a pair of near-misses by the Mustangs in the final 7 seconds.

TURNING POINT

Washington had a wide-open 12-footer from the baseline and he pushed his jumper to the right. Hornets senior guard Marcel Phillips got the rebound and drew the foul. He sank the free throws to give the Hornets a three-point lead. Mustangs senior guard Danny Spinuzza missed on a good half-court shot at the buzzer.

THE STAR

Hornets senior guard Larry Motuzis had 12 of his 16 points in the second half and had seven rebounds and two steals in the winning effort.

Hornets sophomore center Barret Benson had nine points and nine rebounds and Phillips also had nine points. Phillips went 5-of-6 from the line in the fourth. Mustangs senior guard Paul Engo III led the Mustangs with 14 points.

QUOTABLE
