St. Rita cornerback Lamar Dawson committed to Syracuse on Saturday over offers from Cincinnati, Michigan State, Northern Illinois and Toledo. Dawson committed to the Orange during a visit to campus.
"The Dome is pretty nice," Dawson said. "That was probably one of the best parts of Syracuse. That was definitely my favorite part. It’s just huge and they said it gets real loud. There’s not many colleges playing in a straight up dome every week for their home games. So it’s seems pretty unique.”
He added, “They have this big fan base that supports Syracuse. This is New York’s college so I think with the fan support that I’ve seen is just amazing.”
CuseNation.com writer Mike McAllister has kept close tabs on Dawson throughout his recruiting process, and believes that Dawson is great addition to the Syracuse class of 2014.
“Lamar Dawson is big for Syracuse in their 2014 class because cornerback is a huge need for the Orange during this recruiting cycle,” McAllister said. “And being able to land a priority target in a key pipeline area is very important.”
Syracuse focused heavy recruiting efforts on the Chicago area, offering many of the top prospects in the area. So far, the results include two commitments in the class of 2014: Dawson and Lake Zurich linebacker Colton Moskal who chose the Orange earlier in the summer.
“Dawson is a long, rangy athlete with strong ball skills that should have a productive career at Syracuse. The Orange are continuing to be successful in the Midwest and have landed a talented prospect in Dawson,” McAllister said.
