Jabari Parker placed third in the McDonald's All American dunk contest on Monday. | Stacia Timonere~For Sun Times Media

Simeon star Jabari Parker isn’t exactly known for high-flying dunks. His game is more humble. Parker is well-rounded and precise on the court, not so much for flash.

So it was a surprise that he was listed as one of the participants in the dunk contest at the Powerade Jam Fest Monday at the University of Chicago’s Ratner Center, part of the festivities surrounding the McDonald’s All American game that will be held at the United Center Wednesday.

As he has done with everything before in his high school career, Parker excelled. He chose to pay homage to Chicago, especially Michael Jordan, with his array of dunks, which included a cradle dunk and one where he took off from the free throw line.

The classy, stylish dunks kept Parker in the contest until the end.

High-fliers Chris Walker and Andrew Wiggins ended up finishing ahead of him, but Parker impressed the crowd and proved he could hang with the best high school dunkers in the country.

Walker, a 6-10 forward from Bonifay (Fla.), has signed with Florida. Walker said he figured the contest would come down to himself and Wiggins.

“We just wanted to put on a show for everybody,” Walker said.

Parker wasn’t so fortunate in the skills competition, failing to advance to the final round. Young guard Linnae Harper did advance to the final of the girls skills competition, but was held up at the three-point shot and finished in 35 seconds, just behind Jessica Washington’s 30 second time.
