For three halves in a four-day span, Richards had no answer for Argo. In the half that mattered the most, though, that changed.
The host Bulldogs used a 17-3 third-quarter run Monday to take control and avenged Friday’s loss to the Argonauts with an 82-68 win in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal.
Josh Meier led Richards (17-10) with 25 points and 13 rebounds. He was 8-for-8 from the field for 16 points in the second half.
“My teammates gave me the ball in the right position,” Meier said. “Our guards did a great job breaking down the defense and Raynard (Judkins) hit some big threes.
“We knew our season was over if we lost and (Argo) talked a lot this weekend after they beat us.”
Dedrick Shannon Jr. scored 18 points and Cortez Harper, who missed
Friday’s loss, added 16 for the Bulldogs, who will meet Curie in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Jalyn Turner (18 points), Ryan Krob (15 points, 9 rebounds) and Dustin Krob (14 points) paced Argo (11-15).
Judkins (12 points) hit two treys and John Montgomery (9 points, 7 rebounds) scored five points during the Bulldogs’ third-quarter surge that turned a 38-34 deficit into a 51-41 lead.
Richards was 11-of-13 from the field in a 26-point third.
“We had to take better shots in the second half,” Richards coach John Chappetto said. “Argo made it really difficult.”
