Q-and-A with Eisenhower's Nick Curta

02/19/2013, 6:10pm CST
By Pat Disabato

Nick Curta, a 6-6 forward, gives Eisenhower an inside-outside scoring threat and key defense in the paint. The senior also is a member of the Cardinals golf and volleyball teams. He’ll continue his basketball career at Grinnell College.

State title game. You’re in it. What team would you most like to beat for the championship? Why?
Richards. They’re our biggest rival, and they’ve gotten the best of us the past couple of years.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date?
Megan Fox.

You’re on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?
Shrimp fried rice.

What’s the most important value your parents instilled in you?
Dedication. When you start something, you’re not allowed to quit.

Your father, Mike, is the coach at Eisenhower and your brother, Vinny, also is on the team. What’s it like at the Curta house after a tough loss?
It’s very quiet. I go to my room, Vinny goes to his room and my dad goes downstairs.

Given the chance, what person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet? Why?
Bill Russell. He’s got those 11 NBA championship rings and he’s a true competitor who knows the game.

If you could be a pro athlete in any sport other than basketball, what would it be and why?
Soccer. The past four or five years, me, my brother and dad have become soccer nuts. I love the flow of the game and the pride of the European teams.

You’re ruler of the sports world for a day. What do you change?
I would make the distance of an NBA three-pointer a four-pointer in high school. It would give teams a way of always coming back.
