Warren needed two overtimes and some late heroics by Aarias Austin to pull out their 47-45 double overtime win against Glenbrook North Wednesday night. Warren’s defense helped seal the win.

After Warren guard Aarias Austin tied the game with 38.7 seconds left in the second overtime against Glenbrook North, the game appeared destined for overtime No. 3.

Austin, however, picked the pocket of a Spartans’ player, found teammate Adrian Deere all alone for an easy basket and an eventual 47-45 non-conference win.

After two chances to tie on the next possession, the Spartans couldn’t capitalize and were forced to foul. Deere made the two double-bonus free throws with 6.1 seconds left to make it a two possession 47-43 game.

“I actually didn’t know what to do (when he stole it),” said Deere, who finished with a game-high 22 points. “It was a hell of a feeling. Coach (Ryan Webber) kept telling us we were going to win this game he just got to see us play for another 4 minutes.”

Deere was the only player for the Blue Devils (14-11) in double-figure scoring. Austin finished with nine, including a three-pointer with 1:18 left in the first overtime to put his team up 41-39.

Andrew McAuliffe had 13 to lead the Spartans (13-10), but missed a putback that could have tied the game after Deere’s layup. He scored the first points of the second overtime with a back door dunk set up by a screen.

Jan Sieigien and Jason Markus each had 11 for Glenbrook North. Markus hit a three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left in regulation that tied the game at 37-37, forcing the first over time.

“It was an unbelievable high school basketball game and I am really proud of my kids,” Webber said. “Our kids played their but off and I am really proud to be their coach tonight.

“I loved the resolve and determination.”

The Blue Devils led 13-7 after a quarter, 20-15 at half and 27-25 after three quarters. Markus had two of his three three-pointers in the fourth to help the Spartans rally back.
