Benet sophomore quarterback Jack Beneventi picked up his first offer from Western Michigan.

“Getting my first offer was very surreal,” Beneventi said. “I honestly couldn’t believe that I had received my first offer and I was grateful to receive one from Western Michigan.”

The recruiting process is one that Beneventi has been enjoying, but nothing has compared to being offered.

“The most exciting part of the recruiting process is receiving an offer so far,” Beneventi said. “But it is also exciting to visit campuses, like when I went to Notre Dame a few times this fall.

‘‘It feels great to have an offer. It really is a dream come true, and I think it opens a lot of doors for the future.”

Beneventi is planning visits to Illinois and Notre Dame during the offseason.

Thompson talks OSU

Montini junior defensive lineman Dylan Thompson has picked up three Big Ten offers in the last week: Illinois, Indiana and most recently Ohio State.

“I am planning on going to visit Ohio State the weekend of March 22,” Thompson said. “Some things that I am looking forward about the visit are meeting the coaches and the team, plus it is the day of their first spring scrimmage.”

In the meantime, Thompson is just going to take in the recruiting process.

“It is great to have my first three offers, but right now I have to focus on training,” Thompson said. “That and getting better, faster and stronger everyday.”

Bunting adds three

Hinsdale Central junior tight end Ian Bunting picked up offers from Ole Miss, Northwestern and Iowa.

“When I think of Iowa, I like that coach Kirk Ferentz is sending his sons through the program and it shows he trusts the program and it is going in a great direction,” Bunting said. “With Northwestern I have been down there a few times, and I really like coach Pat Fitzgerald and the rest of the coaches.”

Each school, including Ole Miss, is selling Bunting on its unique interpretation of the tight end position.

“When I spoke with Ole Miss they were just talking about how in their offense the tight end isn’t always hand-on-the-ground blocking defensive ends they are gong to flex them out a lot,” Bunting said.

Other notes

Several new offers went out to junior Chicago-area prospects, including Lake Zurich linebacker Colton Moskal, who added his first offer from Minnesota. Another prospect to add an offer is Mount Carmel running back Matt Domer, who picked up the nod from Syracuse.

Even though signing day already has passed, two notable local seniors have yet to announce their college plans: Glenbard West defensive lineman Ruben Dunbar and Neuqua Valley offensive tackle Andrew Geers . Both make their college choices at a later date.
