Phillips will not be allowed to participate in the Illinois High School Association state basketball tournament due to a scheduling error.
The Wildcats received the eighth seed in the St. Laurence sectional last week, but the IHSA did not announce the schedule for the sectional on Friday when all the other schedules were announced.
On Monday the IHSA confirmed that Phillips is not in the tournament and released a St. Laurence sectional bracket without the team listed.
All teams are allowed a maximum of four tournaments, which generally breaks down as three regular season tournaments and then the IHSA playoffs. Most Public League teams typically play two regular season tournaments and the the Chicago Public Schools playoffs and the IHSA playoffs.
Phillips played in a Thanksgiving tournament at St. Patrick, a tournament at Marist before Christmas, the McDipper Tournament at Rich South later in December and the the CPS playoffs last week.
According to the IHSA rule teams have the option of: 16 scheduled games plus three tournaments (max of five games per tournament), or 18 games and two tournaments, or 19 games and one tournament, or 21 games and zero tournaments. Those tournament numbers do not include the state tournament.
Phillips finishes the season with a 12-16 record.
