The star

Senior Sam Downey scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the last three quarters to lead Lake Forest to its first win in four games. The 6-9 Yale-bound center combined with 6-7 sophomore forward Evan Boudreaux to score 45 of the team’s points at Loyola’s War on the Shore.

The moment

Downey scored back-to-back baskets midway through the second quarter that started the Scouts on an 11-0 run to end the first half and sent them into the locker room with a 31-22 lead.

The quote

“Going inside sets up a lot of options for us. The inside-out game sets up our offense to be great.” — Downey

The breakdown

Lake Forest (14-6) trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter, but flourished over the final 24 minutes. Evanston (7-15) did its best to hang around, but the youthful Wildkits were outmatched by the taller, more veteran team. Junior guard Dante Henley led Evanston with 13 points, and junior guard Jackson Mihevc added 12 points in the team’s seventh loss in a row.
