Crystal Lake Central pulled out a 54-38 win over Woodstock due in large part to 26-5 run to end the game.

After Crystal Lake Central turned a seven-point halftime lead against Woodstock into a five-point third quarter deficit the Tigers apparently decided it was time to take care of business.

Crystal Lake Central dominated the final 10 minutes going on a 26-5 run to post a 54-38 Fox Valley (Fox) road win.

“We didn’t score much in the third quarter and then we got to the fourth and finally started making shots,” said Tigers’ guard Corban Murphy, who scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the fourth. “We just kind of took off from there. Lately we haven’t been pulling away from teams when we should. Tonight we did in the fourth quarter.”

Crystal Lake Central (18-2, 6-1) led 28-21 at the break but momentum completely shifted after halftime. Woodstock (14-7, 4-3) started the third quarter on fire with a 12-0 run capped by a trey from Brad Kaufmann with 3:28 to play in the third to take a 33-28 lead.

The Tigers missed their first eight shots of the half but a three-pointer and layup by Murphy tied things up at 33-33 with 1:20 remaining. That’s how the score would remain until the fourth quarter.

Crystal Lake Central completely owned the fourth quarter going 7-for-11 from the floor while the Blue Streaks went 1-for-11.

The Tigers Brad Knoeppel (13 points) opened the quarter with a bucket. After a Woodstock free throw by Damian Stoneking (14 points), Crystal Lake Central responded with a three-pointer from Jake Vanscoyoc and a three-point play by Murphy.

The Blue Streaks pulled within 41-36 after a pair of free throws by Brad Kauffman with 2:40 remaining but the Tigers closed the game with a 13-2 run.

“We made a lot of mistakes and played out of control,” Stoneking said of his team’s play in the decisive fourth quarter. “We just didn’t bring it at the level they brought it in the fourth quarter.”
