Mount Carmel's Matt Domer outruns Simeon defenders. | Patrick Gleason~For Sun-Times Media

Morgan Park senior defensive lineman Khairi Bailey ended his recruitment by making a verbal commitment to Western Michigan.

‘‘I decided to commit to Western Michigan because they are rebuilding their program and coach P.J. Fleck is a great coach,’’ Bailey said. ‘‘I like that he came from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

‘‘The staff is young and energetic and is there for you. It really felt like a family.’’

Bailey took an official visit to Western Michigan on Saturday and also had offers from Northern Illinois, Purdue and others.

‘‘I think my favorite part of my official visit was just being around the players and the coaches,’’ Bailey said. ‘‘Another thing that was big in my decision was just knowing that I have a chance of playing early.’’

Two for Thompson

Montini junior defensive lineman Dylan Thompson picked up his first offer Saturday.

‘‘I went to Illinois hoping for an offer,’’ Thompson said. ‘‘I got called into head coach Tim Beckman’s office, and he offered. At first I freaked out a little. I was just so excited to finally get my first offer.’’

Thompson didn’t stop there. On Sunday, he received an offer from Indiana.

‘‘I was supposed to go to Indiana’s junior day Sunday, but we couldn’t because of the weather,’’ Thompson said. ‘‘So I called coach Kevin Wilson later in the day, and he offered me.

‘‘He came to watch me lift [weights] last week, and he told me that he likes how I lift with the same explosiveness that I play with.’’

Domer adds Illini

Mount Carmel running back Matt Domer visited Illinois for junior day and came away with good news.

‘‘When the coaches told me that they wanted to offer me [a scholarship], I was all smiles’’ Domer said. ‘‘I was enjoying the feeling of being offered a chance to play in one of the huge NCAA conferences I had dreamed of playing in growing up. It is almost like a dream come true.’’

Domer also has an offer from Northern Illinois.

Other notes

One of the most notable visitors to Champaign for junior day was Bolingbrook defensive back Parrker Westphal.

‘‘Coach Beckman emphasized to me that his goal is to keep the best players from Chicago in Illinois and that he wants me to be a part of a possible dynasty,’’ Westphal said.

Indiana also offered scholarships to several area juniors, including Montini linebacker Nile Sykes, Hinsdale Central tight end Ian Bunting and Hinsdale Central offensive lineman Brian Allen.

Plus, Simeon senior offensive lineman Kendall Moore and senior linebacker Reggie Spearman have picked up late offers from Syracuse and will make an official visit Feb. 2.
