Sandburg scored 12 straight points to start the fourth quarter to overcome visiting Lincoln-Way Central 47-37 Friday in Southwest Suburban Blue action.
The Eagles’ (4-14, 2-5) Malek Harris (13 points) scored four straight on jumpers to make it 33-32 with 5:46 to play. Sandburg’s Niko Cahue (11 points) scored five straight points to make it 38-32. The Eagles’ Niko Kogionis (game-high 14 points) nailed a three-pointer to make it 41-32 with 2:33 to play.
Sandburg, which trailed Central 32-29 after three quarters, held the Knights (8-11, 0-7) to five points in the fourth quarter.
“I thought we did a nice job of closing out,” Kogionis said. “We did a nice job of boxing out and getting rebounds.”
Brad Bass led the Knights with nine points and 15 rebounds.
“Down the stretch, their defense got better, and we made some mistakes leaving shooters open for threes a couple of times,” Knights coach Bob Curran said. “Malek made some plays taking us down from the top, and there wasn’t much we could do about that.”
