Junior 6-9 center Cliff Alexander could not be stopped Thursday, scoring 27 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking five shots to lead No. 8 Curie to a 72-37 victory over host Harper.

Curie looked like a team primed for the playoffs Thursday as it defeated host Harper 72-37 Thursday in the Red-Central.

Junior 6-9 center Cliff Alexander dominated, scoring 27 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking five shots in the victory.

The Condors (13-5, 8-0) ended the second quarter in a flurry, rolling off 14 unanswered points to push their lead to 25-15 at the half.

Three consecutive three-pointers by Joshua Stamps had the Condors cruising in the third quarter, as they built a 51-29 lead going into the fourth.

Stamps finished with 15 points, including four three-pointers. DeMarcus Richardson scored 14 points and the elder Stamps, Joe, chipped in with 10.

Curie coach Mike Oliver liked what he saw from his team.

“They shared the ball, hit open shots, and played good defense,” Oliver said. “It was not the score, it was the way that they played that I was pleased with.”

Harper (6-11, 3-5) was led in the scoring by Anthony Hawkins’ 11 points and Carnell Williams’ 10.

Harper coach Charlie Sales said Alexander was the key for the Condors.

“When the big fella plays like that, there are not too many teams anywhere that can handle that.”
