Three-point shooting has been one of the primary strengths of the Ridgewood boys basketball team this season, and it provided the second-half push that propelled the Rebels to a 74-64 victory over Illiana Christian.

Senior Mike Morawiec was the most percise Ridgewood shooter Friday night, going 4-for-4 from three-point range during a third quarter in which the Rebels turned a one-point halftime lead into a 56-47 advantage. But a big reason why Morawiec was so often open in the second half was senior Adam Krozel.

Krozel was a constant force on the interior, scoring a game-high 22 points. The 6-foot-3 forward went 11-for-14 from the field, and his efficiency made it easier for Morawiec and Ridgewood’s other shooters to get open looks from the perimeter.

“They worry about [Krozel] in the post, and then that just leaves me wide open,” said Morawiec, who scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. “He dishes it out to me and I knock it down.”

Morawiec and Krozel were two of four Ridgewood players to score in double digits Friday night. Junior Anthony Mroz tallied 11 points and Igor Cirkovic scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Cirkovic also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

If that quartet is able to play as well as they did Friday – the Rebels committed just seven turnovers – Ridgewood coach Chris Mroz knows it will be difficult for any team to defeat his squad.

“It was nice to see all the guys – [Mike] Lizak, Krozel, Morawiec and Igor – all make shots tonight,” Chris Mroz said. “And then Anthony [Mroz] made some shots as well. When we do that, and score 74 points, we’re tough to beat.”
