Following a five-goal loss in its previous game against Lincoln-Way, Hinsdale Central scored six consecutive goals en route to a 6-2 romp in Wednesday night's rematch.

Following a five-goal loss in its previous game against Lincoln-Way, the Hinsdale Central hockey team entered Wednesday night's rematch hungry for revenge.

And, after conceding the game's first goal, they got it. The Red Devils scored six consecutive goals en route to a 6-2 romp at the Darien Sportsplex.

“I was a little worried that, since they scored the first goal, it was all going to go downhill from there,” Hinsdale Central's Timmy McLaughlin said. “I thought we were going to lose again 6-1, and then we came back.”

McLaughlin played a key role in the Red Devils' scoring outbreak. The senior defenseman, who scored a hat trick to win the IHSHL West All-Star game's MVP on Jan. 14, continued his scoring binge by beating Lincoln-Way goalie Adam Tourlakes on a breakaway with 11:50 remaining in the second period.

McLaughlin's goal followed senior Michael Stella's equalizer in the first period, and was the first of four goals in the second period. Hinsdale Central junior Jack Rooney, freshman Colin Swoyer and junior Dane Sana all scored during the game's middle 16 minutes to put the game firmly out of reach.

“Lately we haven't been playing too good, and we kind of wanted to pick up our game since it's the last couple of games before playoffs,” McLaughlin said. “We want to go into the playoffs strong.”

Dylan Murphy scored both goals for Lincoln-Way (16-21). Sam Messina scored the Red Devils' sixth goal to cap the scoring for Hinsdale Central, which improved to 13-12-2 in the IHSHL West Division with the victory.
