Will Kincanon scored 21 points as Riverside-Brookfield ground out a 61-60 win over a Ridgewood Friday night.

After nailing a series of long bombs, Will Kincanon knew it was time for a change-up.

The Riverside-Brookfield junior converted a crucial three-point play with 3:07 remaining to spark the visiting Bulldogs to a 61-60 victory Friday over Ridgewood.

Kincanon, who had rained in four three-point shots in the third quarter, made his decisive move after the Rebels had taken a 54-51 lead.

“You have to take the ball to the basket late in the game,” Kincanon said. “You can’t keep relying on the jump shot, and I knew they (Rebel defenders) were coming out on me. I took it to the hole and got the ‘and 1.’”

The 6-3 guard finished the contest with a season-high 21 points and added 5 assists. He appears to finally be shaking off the effects of an earlier ankle injury.

“I have been so slow,” he admitted.

His game picked up steam in the third quarter, when Kincanon buried four treys from the right wing.

“My teammates kept feeding me the ball,” Kincanon said, “and I was knocking down the shots.”

Riverside-Brookfield (13-4, 5-0) also received a huge lift from senior Damonta Henry. The 6-0 guard delivered 4 of his 18 points in the final 1:15 of play to push the lead to 61-59.

“Damonta was great down the stretch,” said Bulldogs coach Tom McCloskey.

Ridgewood fell to 11-7, 4-2 despite strong games from Igor Cirkovic (25 points) and Mike Morawiec (16 points). Cirkovic scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, but missed a game-tying free throw with no time remaining.

“Igor was real aggressive,” said Rebels coach Chris Mroz. “He made some shots tonight, and he really played well.”

The Metro Suburban battle was played before a raucous crowd in Norridge.

“One of the best atmospheres we’ve played in all year,” Kincanon said.
