It was another rough game on ESPN for Simeon on Saturday, as the Wolverines lost to Montverde, Fla. 82-53 at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, W.Va.
Montverde, the top-ranked team in the country, beat Young in overtime last month, so the domination of Chicago teams is now complete. No.2 Simeon had no answer for big man Dakari Johnson, who finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Simeon star Jabari Parker, who was still working his way back into shape when the Wolverines lost a game on ESPN Dec. 13, played much better in front of the national audience this time, with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
The Wolverines (9-2) have been able to dominate local teams with raw talent, but when they’ve hit the national stage the team chemistry just hasn’t been good enough to overcome teams with similar talent, especially on the defensive end.
That hasn’t been the case for top-ranked Young. The Dolphins played in the game just before Simeon, which was not televised.
Young (11-1) beat Neumann-Goretti, a team from Philadelphia, 78-49. Center Jahlil Okafor put on a show. He finished with 32 points, shooting 14-for-18 from the field.
Junior Paul White added 19 points and seven rebounds.
