Grant went on a 16-4 run in the fourth quarter to break away from a 51-51 tie and claim a 70-63 win over Richmond in Round 3 of Grant’s holiday basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs won despite committing 25 turnovers in the game, because they made 24-of-37 shots from the field compared to 20-of-50 for Richmond (1-10).

The Bulldogs (7-7) got a season-high 21 points and 13 rebounds from Keion Miller, while Steve Dunning and Tom Blanchette each scored 15.

“Offensively, we stuck with the game plan and rotated the ball around,” said Miller. “We had good ball movement tonight and cuts to the basket. We were able to take the ball hard to the rim and score.”

Grant coach Wayne Bosworth was excited with the way Miller, Dunning and Blanchette worked together to pull out a quality win.

“They did a heckuva job for us tonight,” the coach said. “They move well and really work well together.

“The kids deserve a lot of credit tonight for bouncing back when they tied the game. I thought our defense did a nice job for us in the last four minutes.”

The turnovers, however, were a different story.

“We need to limit the turnovers and take care of the ball on the perimeter,” Bosworth said.

Grant led 33-25 at halftime, but the turnover bug (12 of them) bit the Bulldogs in the third quarter as Richmond clawed to within 46-42. From there, the Rockets finally pulled even at 51-51 before Grant’s late surge put the game safely in its win column.

In earlier games Thursday, Northridge Prep beat Round Lake 56-19 and McHenry edged Grayslake North 49-48.

Northridge is now 3-0 in the six-team, round-robin tourney, while Grayslake North, McHenry and Grant all are 2-1.

On Friday, McHenry plays Grant at 7, Richmond meets Round Lake at 5:30, and Grayslake North plays Northridge at 4
