Seton’s Alex Foster scored 17 points to lead his team to a 72-47 win over host Rich South at the McDipper tournament on Thursday.

Alex Foster put on a second-half show as Seton cruised past host Rich South and a three-point halftime deficit for a 72-47 victory in the last McDipper quarterfinal on Thursday.

Foster, a 6-foot-8 forward, scored the first eight points of the second half to erase a 32-29 debt. The senior poured in 12 of his game-high 17 points in the frame on six buckets, three of which came on dunks. The first jam saw Foster soar behind Rich South’s 2-3 zone for a two-hander, and the next two came in transition off steals.

Mark Weems Jr. chipped in 13 and Johnny Patterson scored 10 off the bench as the Sting (10-5) outscored Rich South 30-4 in the decisive third frame.

Seton A.D. Deon Tolliver said there would be no comment from his school.

Demitri Strickland led Rich South with 12 points. Jaylen Zachery added 11 for the Stars.

“Pressure bursts pipes,” South coach Scot Ritter said. “I thought we did a decent job in the first half on the glass, limiting their second chance points. But in the third quarter, we started playing fast.”

Rich South (6-5) went up 30-24 on a rebound and score from Bryce Lydon. It seemed the Stars’ patient 2-3 zone was giving Seton fits in the first half, but the Sting went inside-out and started pouring it in from deep, burying eight three-pointers to just two from Rich South.

“We couldn’t stop runs,” Ritter said. “With the lack of experience on the varsity, we got out of what our identity is and the lead went to 20. We let them control the tempo after we had controlled it in the first and second.”

The victory puts Seton in consecutive McDipper semifinals. The Sting will meet Marian Catholic in the second semifinal of the day at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
