Bria Gaines is in her fourth year as a varsity player at Bloom. She will be attending Western Kentucky.

What’s the best part about playing basketball?

Being physical, and working as a team. I like doing group work.

What’s it like playing for coach (Ron) Newquist?
(Laughing) It’s fun. At times it’s brutal, but mostly fun. He pushes us to be the best that we can be.

What’s your earliest basketball memory?
When I first started playing in my seventh-grade year. That’s when I said I wasn’t going to play, and the coaches said, “You really should try it.” I did, and fell in love with it.

If you could change one rule at Bloom, what would it be?
The tardy policy. I would definitely switch it from three tardies being an automatic in-school suspension.

What irritates you more than anything else?
Whining. Anyone who whines.

What’s your guilty pleasure food?
I’d have to say fried chicken.

If you could have a player from another team as your teammate, who would it be?
Diamond Beatty (Tinley Park). She’s a team leader and likes to have the team involved.

Your celebrity prom date?
Channing Tatum. He’s cute.

If you could be in a cartoon, which one would it be?
Fat Albert. They have so much fun in that cartoon, it’s ridiculous.

Has anyone told you that you look like someone famous?
Yes, the singer Fantasia.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
As a physical trainer or an educator for little kids.
