Grayslake North’s boys basketball team has been riding a roller-coaster all season.

Tuesday night at Antioch, the ride the Knights got stuck in the “up” position, and the result was a dominating 64-35 win that moved Grayslake back above .500 for the season at 4-3. Antioch dropped to 1-6.

A.J Fish led the Knights in scoring with 15 points, but it was a team effort, as 11 of the 13 players on the team contributed on the offensive end.

Fish also grabbed nine rebounds.

“We wanted to pound the ball inside tonight and take advantage of our height,” said Grayslake coach Todd Grunloh.

“It always is good to get a win against a rival. This was a good one to get after the tough game against Lakes (a 57-54 loss) last Friday.”

Fish, a three-sport star who will play lacrosse in college, is a 6-foot-3 wing who is a three-year varsity starter.

“We stuck with our offensive game play tonight and I was able to get to the rim for my baskets,” he said. “We Ned to continue to finish games when we take an early lead.”

Last Friday, the Knights were way ahead of Lakes, and then got reeled in down the stretch.

Tuesday, there were no such problems.

Grayslake’s defense held Antioch to 10-of-52 shooting from the field.

Anthony Formella led Antioch in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting.

“We are in a tough stretch right now,” said Antioch coach Jim White. “We are trying to get back the confidence we had coming off the Johnsburg game (Antioch’s lone win, ironically over a high-quality opponent).

“Energy is what is going to get our team back on track.”

White praised Formella, a talented guard.

“He can really shoot the ball well,” the coach said. “We try and get him open as much as we can on the offensive end.”
