Orr’s Tyquone Greer hit the game-winning free throws with 21 seconds remaining to give his team a 54-53 win over Rich Central at the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education Shootout at Chicago State on Sunday.

Whenever the the city and the south suburbs go at it, throw the records out the window.

This was the case Sunday as Rich Central took Orr down to the wire before Orr pulled out a 54-53 victory at the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education Shootout at Chicago State.

Tyquone Greer hit what proved to be the game-winning free throws with 21 seconds remaning in the contest. Rich Central (2-5) had a final shot, but failed to convert. There were five lead changes in the fourth quarter and the Spartans (2-1) almost did themselves in when were called for two technical fouls that led to Keith Williams sinking two free throws to give Rich Central a 53-52 lead with 1:51 remaining in the game.

“I was real confident and I knew if I sank my free throws it was a good chance the game would be over,” said Greer. “The way we played we are lucky to get out of here with a win. I know what practice is going to be like tomorrow.”

The Olympians held the biggest lead of the day 32-23 with a basket by Jalen Miller as time expired in the second quarter.

Lewis Adams scored six points in a 10-2 run at the beginning of the third quarter that got Orr back on track. The Spartans didn’t take their first lead of the game until the final two seconds of the third quarter when Greer sank a driving layup for a 41-40 lead going into the final quarter.

“We have been off for about a week, just coming back from Dallas,” Orr coach Lewis Adams said. “That is no excuse for losing our composure down the stretch.”
