Emily Halliday is a junior guard averaging 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game for the Coalers. She also played on the volleyball team.

What season goals do you have?
The coaches joked because we were so young that we were too stupid to be any good. Now, we know what we’re doing. The girls who haven’t played varsity, we played almost 40 games this summer so we have good chemistry, and we’re working well together.

Basketball or volleyball?
I think I like basketball better. It’s more intense and physical. I like the physical aspect of the game.

Snap your finger and your game improves. What do you pick?
Dribbling, for sure. I’m pretty tall for a guard, but playing the point, I dribble high sometimes.

Fans don’t know that ...
I think that with girls basketball, how physical it is. If you watch a girls game and a boys game, they’re completely different. Girls can be so catty, diving on the floor and attacking girls. It’s very physical.

Do you want to play in college?
I haven’t thought about it much. If I got the chance, I would. It depends if I know my career. If I know that, I think I’d probably just want to get through school and not play sports.

Who is your celebrity prom date?
I’d have to say Justin Bieber.

When is it appropriate to start listening to Christmas music?
I start it right after Halloween.

Favorite Christmas movie?
“Elf”. I love Will Ferrell.

What will you remember most about Coal City?
Probably just the team chemistry that we have. We’ve been playing together since sixth grade. I think it would be sad to leave all of them and play with other people.
