Being undefeated is one of the tougher things a team has to encounter. There’s the pressure of having to be perfect, as well as having to justify your record. Dundee-Crown justified its unbeaten record by defeating St. Patrick 49-40 Saturday night at St. Patrick.

The Chargers (5-0) went on a 12-0 run over the last 3:51 to defeat the highly regarded hosts from the East Suburban Catholic.

“It’s the last three minutes,” said senior captain Brandon Rodriguez. “We have to put the clamps on because we know we have to have the win. You can’t doubt yourself.”

After St. Patrick hit a three-pointer to open the game, Dundee-Crown went on a quick 10-0 run to set the tone that they were not to be taken lightly. Rodriquez had six points in the run.

After the Shamrocks (3-2) closed the gap to 12-11 after the first period, they scored seven of the game’s next nine points. Dundee-Crown recovered nicely, however, and the game then became a back-and-forth

match. Trailing 18-14, the Chargers went on a 9-2 run to end the first half.

The Chargers defense continued to smother the Shamrocks, not allowing St. Patrick to make a basket until 5:13 remained in the third quarter. But then sophomore Isaac Moore took over. He scored eight of St. Patrick’s next 11 points and the Shamrocks led 33-32 after three quarters.

“We have to become not so complacent,” said Rodriguez. “It’s cool being undefeated, but we can’t let our games go with a lot of runs in them.”

Keith Langston led St. Patrick with 14 points while Moore added 13. Rodriguez had a game-high 16 while JT Beasly added 14 for the Chargers.
