Morgan adds Wisconsin offer

2014 Crete-Monee linebacker Nyles Morgan won a state title Saturday and a few days earlier picked up an offer from Wisconsin.

“I was kind of expecting it,” Morgan said. “They had been sending me a lot of mail. But I was having a hard time getting in contact with them. After I finally did they told me they were offering me a scholarship.”

Morgan has kept an eye on Wisconsin this season, especially its linebackers.

“I like to watch how their linebackers get to the ball and make big hits,” Morgan said. “Like senior linebacker Chris Borland, I have watched them play in a lot of games.”

Buckeyes Big Weekend

Several of the area’s top prospects visited Ohio State for Saturday’s game against Michigan, including Oak Park-River Forest junior defensive end Nile Sykes.

“It was all it was hyped up to be,” Sykes said. “The Ohio State and Michigan game is one of the best college football rivalries ever.”

Sykes spent most of the day getting a taste for the Buckeye’s program.

“While I was there I got the chance to go out on the field,” Sykes said. “I also got to speak to coach Mike Vrabel and then head into the locker room after the game was over.”

Other visitors were De La Salle junior offensive lineman Jamarco Jones, running back Mikale Wilbon and Plainfield South linebacker Clifton Garrett.

Next for Treadwell

Crete-Monee wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has been making headlines with his play on the field, but what is next for him after winning the 6A state title?

“What’s next for me are official visits to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss,” Treadwell said. “I will probably have them scheduled by Wednesday I hope.”

He added, “I have been waiting so long to visit Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, probably since July.”

Weekly Notes

Glenbard West’s Nathan Marcus will take his official visit to Vanderbilt on January 21st.

“I am excited about getting to meet more of the guys, and celebrating a great season and hopefully getting to go to a bowl game with them, and get to head to some warm weather.”

Marcus committed to Vanderbilt in the spring, and remains solid after a big senior season.

Another senior that schools are beginning to notice is Hinsdale Central offensive lineman Nick Piker, who picked up his first offer from Georgetown.

“It is a really good school and they have a really nice campus and I really like their coach,” Piker said. “It was exciting when I visited and there are a lot of good things going on there.”

Piker has also heard from Indiana, Northern Illinois, Minnesota, Eastern Michigan and others.
