Jake Maestranzi scored 18 points to lead No. 19 Notre Dame to a 64-45 win over tournament host Lane on Monday.

Jake Maestranzi proved Monday he’s going to fit right in at Notre Dame.

The senior transfer from South Elgin knocked down four 3-pointers and scored a team-best 18 points to lead the No. 19-ranked Dons to a 64-45 win over Lane at Lane’s tournament.

Maestranzi, a 5-foot-8 point guard, buried his first 3-pointer in the third minute of the game, and Notre Dame never looked back.

“My teammates were feeding me the ball, and I was able to hit some open shots,” Maestranzi said. “It was a great team win. We shared the ball, and we played great defense.”

Senior Matt Mooney, who will play at Air Force, followed Maestranzi with 14 points, and senior Eddie Serrano added 11 as the Dons showcased a balanced offense.

“Any one of us can be the scorer on any day,” said senior guard Donte Stephenson, a three-year varsity veteran. “Jake came up big for us (Monday), but we all the ability to do that.”

Notre Dame coach Tom Les was most pleased with how his team, which lacks a true post presence, defended the Indians.

“It was a good start,” he said. “I liked our intensity in the first half. You’re always concerned with what you will get in that first game, but I was more comfortable with this group than in years past.”

The Dons were up 38-19 and extended its advantage to as many as 26 midway through the third quarter.

Admir Suljic scored a game-high 21 for Lane.
